All Gays Favor Gay Marriage? Not Really
Many believe the sentimental idea that a couple, whether gay or straight, will be happier in their relationship when they get married. To some, this is just an advertising ploy that benefits the multi-billion dollar wedding industry. Still, the struggle for the legalization of gay marriages continues. However, it would come as a surprise that some people from the gay and lesbian community do not share the same sentiments as those who favor same-sex marriages. Hmm… gays against gay marriage? Why? Well, here are a couple of their arguments:
- Several surveys have shown that almost 50% of marriages end in divorce. While these surveys do not invalidate the sanctity of marriage, it clearly shows that many heterosexual couples appears to have little regard for marriage (which is kind of ironic, since apparently, a possible number of those straight people who don’t want gays to get married could be having marital problems of their own, which may include infidelity. But that’s a topic for another day.).
(Our two cents: Marriages may not be perfect, but when it comes right down to it, humans in general aren’t flawless in the first place.)
- Socio-economic benefits of marriage such as tax breaks, health care, loans and credits guarantee, etc. are concerns that may be supported and amended even outside the issue of marriage. Besides, these benefits are already being granted to couples who are in a domestic partnerships in many states.
Well, in light of these arguments, is the fight for legally-recognized gay marriages worth it?
